Flash kit / linker for Nintendo DS/DSi makes it possible to play different media files (mp3, pictures, video, text books etc), backup of your games (ROM files), free home brew games and applications.
Some flash kits and expansion packs offers additional functionality like motion detecting, rumble, expanded mempory for applications like DS Browser.
Slot-1: Latest and most convienient to use flash kits, some have internal memory but most use Micro SD to store your files. Can be used with Slot-2 expansion packs (not DSi).
Slot-2: Older generation of flash kits but still works well (not DSi). Some are fitting nice in DS Lite, some use bigger GBA sized carts. All Slot-2 flash kits require Slot-1 passme device to run commercial DS ROM backups (home brew / free ware works without passme)
Slot-2 is also used for expansion packs for Slot-1 devices. Expansion packs offers full GBA game compatibility, rumble features etc.
Note: DS flash kits are not compatible with DSi, but DSi flash kits are compatible with DS as well.
